CUMILLA — There is no alternative to uncompromising BNP leader Khaleda Zia in Bangladesh, said Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, a BNP vice chairman and the party’s nominee for Cumilla-4 in the 13th parliamentary election.

Kaikobad, a former five-term lawmaker and minister from Muradnagar, made the remarks Saturday afternoon at a prayer gathering organized by Akubpur Union BNP in Cumilla’s Muradnagar for Khaleda Zia’s recovery. He said Tarique Rahman is her alternative, adding that he is her son.

Kaikobad broke down in tears during the prayer. “Today’s gathering and this prayer are all for Begum Khaleda Zia’s recovery,” he said. “She is a leader whose husband was assassinated, who lost a son and who was jailed without committing any crime. The sacrifices she has made are not just oppression — the Awami government forcibly evicted her from her own home. She was sentenced to prison on false cases and kept behind bars. Even then, she never compromised.”

The senior BNP leader asked everyone present to offer two rakats of nafl prayer and pray for Khaleda Zia. Those in attendance raised their hands and pledged to do so.
