A man named Roman Pradhan, alias Lalon, 45, has died after being electrocuted while trying to steal electric cable in Kamalapur in the capital, police said.
The incident took place opposite the Kamalapur water tank, under Motijheel police station, at around 10:30am on Wednesday.
Roman Pradhan was the son of Siraj Bepari of Char Jagamohan village in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur. He lived in a rented home in Raja Mia’s house on the first lane of Manda in the capital.
Motijheel police Sub-Inspector (SI) Ershad Hossain said Roman was electrocuted at some point before dawn while trying to steal electric cable opposite the Kamalapur water tank. Police recovered him after passers-by alerted them. He was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital at 2:20pm, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
SI Ershad Hossain said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
