A Bangladeshi expatriate killed a friend who refused to delete photos of his wife that he had posted on Facebook. A criminal court in Kuwait has sentenced the Bangladeshi to death for the killing.
According to Kuwait’s Public Prosecution, the court delivered the verdict on Tuesday, November 3. He was convicted of premeditated murder arising from a dispute over his wife’s photos being published on social media.
Prosecutors said the accused and the dead man had been friends. A dispute arose between them after private photos of the accused’s wife were posted on Facebook. The friend refused repeated requests to delete them, after which the accused planned to kill him.
According to the prosecution, the accused obtained a knife for the purpose. After making sure his friend was at a particular spot at his workplace, he waited outside.
When the victim came out, the accused attacked him, stabbing him repeatedly in the head and on different parts of the body. He was seriously wounded and died at the scene.
At the court hearing, the accused admitted the killing. He said he had been on friendly terms with the dead man before the dispute.
In his statement to the court, he said that once, while visiting his home, the friend took photos of his wife without permission and later posted them on Facebook.
The accused said that after the photos were posted, offensive comments about his wife began to appear. When he learned of this, he asked his friend to delete them, but the friend ignored the request.
Instead, the friend later posted more photos of his wife on Facebook. This caused tension between him and his wife and trouble in the family, he told the court.
He also said the episode left him wanting revenge. At one point he planned to kill his friend, and he attacked and killed him as planned.
After reviewing all the evidence and the accused’s confession, the court found him guilty of intentional, premeditated murder and sentenced him to death.
