Invest Bangladesh set out Bangladesh’s investment potential and a range of mega projects in infrastructure and manufacturing at the World Investment Forum 2026 in Doha. About 100 people, including institutional investors, international financiers and representatives of investment promotion agencies (IPAs) from various countries, attended the session on the forum’s centre stage on Monday.

The special session, titled “Invest in Bangladesh: The Billion Dollar Opportunity Hiding in Plain Sight”, was held in the morning as part of the three-day forum organised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The keynote presentation was given by Nahian Rahman Rochi, the member in charge of Invest Bangladesh’s investment promotion division. He showed how Bangladesh’s young workforce, competitive operating costs and large domestic market are creating attractive investment opportunities, and described the government’s ongoing work on investor services and infrastructure development.

The presentation set out investment opportunities in large solar power projects on government land, LNG infrastructure, the proposed Chattogram free trade zone, modern port facilities and the Matarbari green dockyard. The great potential of electronics, high-tech textiles and medical supplies was also discussed. It explained in detail how developers, operators, investors and financiers can take part in these projects.

“Investors wanted to know how they can take part in the projects we presented. Regional partners also showed interest in opportunities to work together on economic zones, ports and dry docks. These investments can meet domestic demand and also play an important role in regional trade. We will continue talks with those who are interested and give full support on the process of joining the projects,” Nahian Rahman Rochi said.

During the forum Invest Bangladesh also held several bilateral meetings with prospective investors. A roundtable was also held on how investment promotion agencies can improve coordination among themselves.

Earlier, on Sunday, the forum’s first day, Invest Bangladesh chairman Ashik Chowdhury took part in a ministerial panel on turning energy transition priorities into investable projects. He explained how identifying investors, preparing land, aligning policy and structuring public-private partnership (PPP) projects to advance renewable energy have been brought under a single institutional framework. He also answered questions about the Sonagazi solar PPP project on unused government land and the potential for applying the model elsewhere. Invest Bangladesh currently has 15 large solar power projects in its pipeline, to be carried out under PPP in the coming months.

At a separate ministerial roundtable on investment, the Invest Bangladesh chairman called for greater weight to be given to the positive development impact of investment in emerging economies. He proposed that UNCTAD showcase Bangladesh’s successful investment examples more widely. UNCTAD could also consider effective risk-sharing mechanisms for investment modelled on investment guarantees and export credit, he said.
