Want at home, a father out of work and a mother’s constant struggle to pay for their studies. With help sometimes from teachers and sometimes from a stipend, twin sisters Rahima Sardar and Rabeya Sardar fought through hardship. Their dream was to bring a smile to their father’s face with good results. By getting GPA-5 in the humanities in the 2026 HSC examination, they have moved a step closer to it. Rahima and Rabeya live in Ramkarji village of Chhinai union in the upazila and are students of Rajarhat Government Mir Ismail Hossain College.

The college’s results show that 142 of its students passed the HSC examination this year. Only two got GPA-5, and both are the twins. They are reported to be the only GPA-5 achievers among the upazila’s 14 institutions, made up of seven colleges, three school and colleges and four technical institutes.

The story behind the success was far from easy. Of three daughters, the eldest is married.

The household is made up of their father, Monir Hossain Sardar Riju, their mother, Nasima Begum, and the two younger daughters. With the father out of work, the family has struggled for money for a long time, and paying for the two daughters’ studies on limited means was a big challenge. Even so, the parents did not let their education stop and did everything they could to help them along.

Several teachers and the college stood by the sisters. Private tutors Moslem Uddin, Ahsan Habib and Sohel taught one of them free of charge, and the college helped with admission, form fill-up and other costs. They also received a stipend. This support gave them the courage to keep studying.

Their mother, Nasima Begum, was moved by their success. “My husband is out of work. I educated my daughters with great difficulty. Private tutors Moslem Uddin, Ahsan Habib and Sohel taught one of the two sisters without payment. The principal took only a token amount for admission, form fill-up and various exams. They also got a stipend. Without everyone’s help, my daughters might not have done so well,” she said.

Speaking of their dreams and struggle, Rahima and Rabeya said they studied with the aim of good results, to ease their father’s hardship a little and to fulfil their own dreams. Apart from travel to college and meals, they studied almost all the time and slept very little. Their dream now is to get into a good university for higher education, and they are preparing for it, they said.

Professor Muha. Zahurul Islam, principal of Rajarhat Government Mir Ismail Hossain College, said: “Among the 14 colleges in Rajarhat upazila, these twin sisters are the ones who achieved GPA-5 in the humanities. We are delighted at their remarkable success.”
