A father and son have been killed after an unidentified vehicle hit them on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Tongi, Gazipur. The accident happened early on Saturday (Oct. 24) in the Gazipura area under Tongi East police station.
The dead are Tapan Chandra Das, 50, and his son Likhon Chandra Das, 20. They were from Kaibartapara in Dewanganj upazila of Sherpur and lived in the Gazipura Sataish Chourasta area under Tongi West police station in Gazipur city.
Citing local people, Md Maksudul Alam, officer in charge of Tongi East police station, said an unidentified vehicle hit the father and son at about 4:15am on Saturday on the highway next to the Kutumbari hotel, on the east side of the Gazipura BRT lane. Both were seriously injured. Police went to the scene and took them to Tongi General Hospital, where a doctor declared Likhon dead.
Tapan Chandra Das, who was critically injured, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. He died there at about 9:30am.
The officer said both bodies were being kept at the hospital morgue and would be handed over to the family after legal formalities.
