Two military aircraft collided in mid-air during a training flight in the Philippines, killing four pilots. The country’s air force gave the information on Saturday (24 October).
According to a report by NDTV, the crash happened on Friday afternoon at Fernando Air Base, south of the capital Manila. Both aircraft were single-engine SF-260 trainers.
Philippine Air Force spokesperson Colonel Alvin Capinguian said in a statement: “The two aircraft crashed within the base’s perimeter. No one else was killed or injured.”
An investigation has begun into the cause of the crash. As a precaution, all of the air force’s SF-260 aircraft have been temporarily grounded, Capinguian said.
The Philippine military has had several fatal aircraft crashes in recent years. In May, two military pilots were killed when another plane of the same model crashed during training in the northern province of Benguet.
