The body of Shuvo Das, 24, a remittance worker killed in an Israeli drone strike in Lebanon, has returned to Bangladesh after three months and 25 days.
Shuvo Das’s body arrived in Sripatipur village, Kalaroa, Satkhira, around 10 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 6).
As the hearse entered the village, the area was overcome with the anguished cries and mourning of relatives. The family, having lost their earning young son, was left devastated. Thousands of grieving people gathered at the family home for a final glimpse of him. His last rites were performed and he was laid to rest at the family cremation ground that afternoon.
Family sources said Shuvo was the second of three brothers and one sister. To help support the family, he had sold two decimals of homestead land and gone to work in Lebanon. But on May 11, while working at a job site in southern Lebanon, he was killed on the spot in an Israeli military drone strike. After a lengthy administrative process and government effort, his body returned home today, nearly four months after his death.
