A warrant-listed suspect, identified as Md. Sohag Chowdhury, 35, died after falling while fleeing at the sight of police in Noakhali’s Subarnachar upazila.
Rafiqul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Char Jabbar police station, confirmed the information Sunday (Sept. 6) afternoon.
He said the deceased was a warrant-listed suspect with six cases against him at the police station. On Saturday evening, he saw police speaking with the plaintiff in one of the cases and ran to flee, falling and injuring himself. The incident occurred in the Haji Idris Mia Bazar, also known as Nobir Bazar, area of Ward No. 7 in the upazila’s Mohammadpur union.
The deceased, Md. Sohag Chowdhury, was the son of Nur Nabi Chowdhury of Char Uria village, Ward No. 7, in the same union.
Police sources said a team from Char Jabbar police station raided the Idris Mia Bazar area based on a tip-off to arrest the warrant-listed suspect, Sohag. Sensing the police presence, he attempted to flee, and died after falling at one point.
