Gold prices have fallen in the domestic market, tracking a decline in the global market. The price of 22-karat gold has dropped by 4,374 taka per bhori. The new price took effect from 10 a.m. today. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), the jewelers’ trade body, announced the price cut in a notice.
Following the cut, the price of one bhori of the best-quality, 22-karat gold now stands at 231,880 taka. The price of 21-karat gold has fallen to 221,441 taka. Gold of 18-karat purity is priced at 190,123 taka, while traditional-method gold is priced at 155,306 taka.
Before today’s price change, gold prices stood as follows: 22-karat at 236,254 taka per bhori, 21-karat at 225,640 taka per bhori, 18-karat at 193,739 taka, and traditional-method gold at 158,280 taka per bhori.
Gold prices were previously cut by as much as 4,474 taka per bhori on Aug. 31. Gold had earlier reached a record high of 286,000 taka in the domestic market. Gold prices hit their highest level in the country’s history on Jan. 29 this year, when the price jumped by 16,213 taka per bhori in a single move that morning to reach 286,000 taka. Prices have since fallen back below 220,000 taka per bhori.
