Three establishments in Lakshmipur have been fined a combined 1,020,000 taka over allegations including the sale of stale food at their hotels. The fines were issued during a joint operation by the Pure Food Court, the Safe Food Authority and the SRB in the district town from Friday (September 18) morning through the afternoon, according to district safe food officer Sumadhu Chakraborty.
Among the fined establishments, Nurjahan Hotel owner Saiful Alam was fined 500,000 taka, Rajmahal Hotel’s Bishnu Banik was fined 400,000 taka, and Mohammadia Hotel owner Nazma Begum was fined 120,000 taka. The fines were imposed by Lakshmipur Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court judge Md Omar Faruk, presiding over the Pure Food Court.
Also present during the operation were SRB Noakhali camp DAD Amalesh Bain, district safe food officer Sumadhu Chakraborty, and Lakshmipur municipality safe food inspector Abdullah Hil Hakim.
District safe food officer Sumadhu said: “In the joint operation by the Pure Food Court, the Safe Food Authority and the SRB, evidence was found of food being prepared in unhygienic kitchen conditions and of rotten, stale food being sold at all three establishments. Evidence was also found of the banned preservative keora water being used in food preparation at Nurjahan Hotel.” The officer said such operations to ensure food safety would continue in the future.
