Four more people died of dengue across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, health authorities said, pushing this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 111. Another 1,152 people were newly hospitalized with dengue over the same period.
The figures come from the Directorate General of Health Services’ regular dengue bulletin issued Thursday (Sept. 3). The directorate said 111 people have died of dengue so far this year, including 43 in August alone. Two died in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June and 36 in July; 14 have died so far in September.
In the past 24 hours, 101 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka North City Corporation area, 135 in the Dhaka South City Corporation area, and 227 outside Dhaka’s two city corporations. Among other divisions, 119 were hospitalized in Barishal, 194 in Chattogram, 247 in Khulna, 87 in Mymensingh, 109 in Rajshahi, 27 in Rangpur and six in Sylhet.
According to the health directorate, a total of 39,532 people have been hospitalized with dengue nationwide since Jan. 1 this year. Of them, 36,467 have recovered and been discharged. Currently, 2,954 dengue patients remain hospitalized across the country.
