Thakurgaon gang-rape: main accused arrested in Gazipur

RAB has arrested the lead accused in a case in which an expatriate’s wife in Ranisankail, Thakurgaon, was gang-raped after being followed into a bathroom while bathing, filmed naked, and later blackmailed with that video. The accused was arrested in Gazipur.

Biplob Kumar Goswami, senior assistant director (media) of RAB-13 and additional superintendent of police, confirmed the arrest on Saturday.

The accused, Md Al Amin, 30, was arrested in an operation in the Bhaoraid Mor area under Gazipur metropolitan Sadar police station at 9:05pm on Friday. He is the son of Md Hanif of Hatgaon village in Ranisankail upazila.

According to the case statement, the victim was bathing at her father’s house when the accused, identified as Jony, broke through the bathroom ventilator and entered. When the woman tried to step outside, Al Amin, who was waiting outside, grabbed her by the neck and forced her back into the bathroom. Jony then filmed her naked on his mobile phone and raped her, after which Al Amin also raped her. The recorded video was later shared among the accused, who began blackmailing the woman and pressuring her for sexual relations.

Most recently, on August 2, another accused, Mahbub Alam, showed the woman the video on his phone and demanded 500,000 taka, threatening to circulate it on social media if she refused.

Following the incident, the victim filed a case at Ranisankail police station on August 20 under gang rape and pornography laws. The accused went into hiding after the case was filed to avoid arrest.

Given the seriousness of the case, RAB-13 intensified intelligence surveillance to make the arrest. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team from the Sadar Company of RAB-13, Rangpur, and RAB-1, CPSC, Gazipur, carried out the operation at 9:05pm on Friday and arrested lead accused Md Al Amin.
