The minister for health and family welfare, Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain, has stressed doctor training, the exchange of health workers, joint research and the transfer of advanced health technology in order to strengthen cooperation between Bangladesh and China in the health sector.
He said Bangladesh and China have a long-standing friendly relationship in public health and medical services.
To make that relationship more effective and productive, he said, practical cooperation between the health institutions of the two countries must increase.
He put forward these proposals in bilateral talks with hospital authorities after visiting Hainan General People’s Hospital in Haikou city in China’s Hainan province on Friday (September 18). The health minister called on Chinese medical institutions and investors to come forward to invest in Bangladesh and build modern, quality hospitals there. He said the Bangladesh government would give Chinese investors and joint health-sector projects the necessary policy support and security guarantees.
The health minister also asked Hainan General People’s Hospital to provide special medical facilities and discounts to make treatment easier for Bangladeshi patients. In response, the hospital authorities agreed to open a special green medical channel for Bangladeshi patients and to introduce special discounts on treatment. The hospital’s president, Zhang Jun, welcomed the Bangladeshi proposals and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Bangladesh in staff training, technological innovation, hospital management and the development of the health industry.
