The district detective branch (DB) has arrested three people, including the main accused, over a double murder stemming from a property dispute in Comilla’s Muradnagar upazila. The weapon used in the killing has also been recovered. Comilla district police additional superintendent and media officer Md Lutfor Rahman disclosed the information Wednesday (September 16) afternoon.
The three arrested are the case’s main accused, Md Mostak Ahammed, alias Abu, 58; his wife, Hanufa Begum, 45; and their daughter, Iti, 18.
Police said that on the evening of September 14, Manjurul Alam Titu, 35, and Khaleda Akter Baby, 70, both residents of Dharanipara village in Muradnagar upazila, were killed with a sharp weapon. A murder case was filed over the incident at Muradnagar police station. Following the case, a team from the district detective branch (DB) began an investigation and operation on the instructions of the Comilla district superintendent of police.
Based on modern data analysis and confidential information, a raid in Comilla city’s Badshah Mia Bazar area led to the arrest of the case’s second accused, Hanufa Begum, and third accused, Iti. The main accused, Mostak Ahammed alias Abu, was later arrested by police from a moving train in Brahmanbaria’s Akhaura area as he attempted to flee by train.
Police further said that in initial questioning, the arrested accused admitted their involvement in the killing of Manjurul Alam Titu and Khaleda Akter Baby, which stemmed from a land dispute. Based on the information they provided, the weapon used in the killing has been recovered.
Comilla district police additional superintendent and media officer Md Lutfor Rahman said the arrested accused would be sent to jail through the court after completing the necessary legal process.
