Teesta master plan work ‘can formally start next year’

The minister made the remarks as chief guest at an event held Saturday (September 12) morning at Khuniagachh SC High School ground in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila, organised to promote women’s empowerment, improve sports facilities, and build an “Alokito Lalmonirhat” (Enlightened Lalmonirhat).

The minister said the government is working to implement the Teesta master plan, and that formal work on it can begin in 2027. The master plan, the minister said, will play an important role in solving the long-standing problems faced by people living along the Teesta river and its surrounding areas.

The minister also called on everyone to work together to stop social ills such as drugs, gambling, child marriage and dowry.

At the event, 11 sewing machines and sports equipment were distributed to various educational institutions. Twenty kilograms of GR rice each was also distributed to 750 families affected by flooding and river erosion.

Also present were Lalmonirhat district council chairman Md Moinul Haque, Sadar upazila executive officer (UNO) Manonita Das, and party leaders and activists at various levels.
