BNP’s acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that some of the opposition’s vehicles did not pay tolls while taking 450 cars on a long march to Rangpur amid the fuel crisis.
He made the remarks at a discussion meeting at the National Press Club on Tuesday (September 22) afternoon.
Rizvi said the opposition’s long march programme was intended to spread confusion among the public. Rather than setting out the effect of the global crisis on the rise in fuel prices, he said, they are making personal attacks.
He said that as the opposition they will campaign in parliament and on the streets, which is their democratic right. For that reason the government had not obstructed any of their programmes. Yet the opposition is misleading the public instead of setting out the effect of the global crisis, he said.
On the attack at Rajshahi railway station, Rizvi said leaders and activists of a secret organisation had carried out an unprecedented attack there. Because they have repeatedly deceived the public, he said, the public has not accepted Jamaat-e-Islami. He also remarked that they are still deceiving the public constantly.
At the discussion meeting, BNP’s acting secretary general said reserves had increased since the government took office. As a result it is proving possible to meet the crisis to some extent. He gave an assurance that public hardship would also ease once the global crisis passed.
