Two children have died after drowning in a pond in Mithamoin upazila, Kishoreganj. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 9) in the South Gopdighi area of the upazila.
The deceased are Hafiza Akter, 5, daughter of Abdul Kader of South Gopdighi village, and Joyanto Mondol, 6, son of Juwel Mondol of the same area.
According to police and local sources, the two children went to play behind their house in the morning and at some point fell into a pond. They were later found floating in the water during a search. They were taken unconscious to Mithamoin Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.
Mithamoin Police Station Sub-Inspector Shahadat Hossain confirmed the incident, saying the bodies of the two children had been handed over to their families and that legal procedures were being carried out.
