A mobile court has fined a fertiliser dealer 8,000 taka for selling TSP fertiliser above the set price in Madarganj, Jamalpur.
The operation was carried out Saturday (September 12) afternoon in the Bajiterpara area of the upazila, following complaints from farmers.
According to sources involved in the operation, Montazur Ali, owner of Messrs S N Traders, a fertiliser dealer appointed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), was fined 8,000 taka under the Consumer Rights Protection Act for selling TSP fertiliser above the set price.
The mobile court was led by Madarganj UNO and Executive Magistrate Sumon Chowdhury. Upazila Agriculture Officer Habibur Rahman and other relevant officials were present.
Local farmer Anis said: “I went to the shop several times to buy fertiliser but couldn’t find any. Later I heard it was available here at a higher price. So I was forced to come here to buy it.”
He said: “All we want from the administration is for fertiliser allocated for farmers to be easily available at the set price.”
UNO Sumon said: “We are regularly monitoring the market to ensure farmers get fertiliser at a fair price. Overpricing fertiliser or harassing farmers in any way will not be tolerated.”
He added: “Such operations against dishonest traders will continue. Anyone found selling fertiliser above the set price will face legal action.”
