Kolkata police have filed an FIR against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The FIR was filed at Hastings police station over an event marking the founding anniversary of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, the party’s student wing.

Mamata Banerjee has been accused of contempt of court, obstructing police duties, and continuing the event beyond the time set by the court. Alongside Mamata, an FIR has also been filed against the event’s organizers under multiple sections of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad’s founding anniversary event was held Friday on Cathedral Road in Kolkata. The High Court had ordered that the event be held while keeping the road’s northbound lane open. But in practice, both lanes were reportedly closed.

There were also allegations of a scuffle with police. The court had ordered that the gathering could continue only until 3 p.m. But it is alleged that the program had not ended even after that time had passed. In light of this, police took suo motu action against Mamata and the event’s organizers.
