A sudden fire has reduced young trader Imran’s dream to ashes in Hosenpur, Kishoreganj.
The fire, sparked by an electrical short circuit, instantly consumed a large quantity of goods, food items and cash at a grocery shop. The affected trader, Imran, said the losses amount to nearly 1 million taka.
The fire broke out Thursday (Sept. 3) night at a grocery shop near the helipad in Dhankura village, Araibaria union, reducing the shop and everything in it to ashes.
The affected trader, Imran Mia, is a resident of Nirahargati village in the upazila.
According to family sources, Imran Mia returned from working abroad three months ago and started a dealership business supplying biscuits and other food items from two companies, Olympic and Haque. He supplied these products from the shop to various businesses in Hosenpur and neighboring upazilas. As on any other day, he locked the shop Thursday night and went home. Later, in the dead of night, a rickshaw-puller passing through the area spotted flames at the shop and alerted the owner.
The shop owner called the Hosenpur Fire Service office by phone, and firefighters arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control, but by then everything had already burned to ashes.
Affected trader Imran Mia said: “There were about 800,000 taka worth of goods from the two companies in the shop. Some of the goods were salvaged, but most burned. I’ve suffered losses of more than 1 million taka.”
Hosenpur Fire Service Station Officer Md. Shamsul Haque said firefighters brought the blaze under control after reaching the scene, but most of the goods had already burned. He said the fire is initially believed to have started from an electrical short circuit.
