Police seized 1,205 bottles of Indian phensedyl in Goainghat, Sylhet, arresting a woman identified as Kutina Begum, 40.
The drugs were seized during a raid on Kutina Begum’s home in Patni village, Rustampur union of the upazila, around 11 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 6).
Kutina, who was arrested, is the wife of Tera Mia of the same village.
Police said a team from Goainghat police station raided Kutina Begum’s house based on a tip-off. A search of various parts of the house turned up 1,205 bottles of phensedyl, with an estimated market value of about 2.4 million taka. A case has been filed at Goainghat police station under the Narcotics Control Act. Kutina Begum has been handed over to court.
Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge of Goainghat police station, said police operations to curb drug smuggling and its spread in border areas will continue.
