A court has granted a two-day remand for Zisan Ahmed Pradhan, an expelled central assistant secretary for international affairs of Chhatra Shibir and a former president of the organisation’s Cumilla district west unit, who was arrested in a case filed on a rape allegation.
Toyob Uddin, judge of the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court-3 in Cumilla, passed the order on Sunday, June 21. The complainant’s lawyer, Advocate Monir Hossain Patwari, confirmed the information.
According to court sources, Zisan Ahmed Pradhan went missing on June 11, his family claimed, and a missing-person general diary (GD) was filed the next day at Daudkandi Model police station. That night he was recovered in an unconscious state from the Laksam Junction area of the district. The same night, a 25-year-old woman filed a rape case against him at Daudkandi police station. Police showed him as arrested and produced him before a Cumilla court from Cumilla Medical College Hospital on the afternoon of June 16.
Advocate Monir Hossain Patwari said the case’s investigating officer, Shamsul Alam Shah of the Cumilla district Detective Branch (DB) police, produced Zisan before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court-3 and sought a seven-day remand; the court granted two days.
The investigating officer, Shamsul Alam Shah, officer-in-charge of the Cumilla district DB police, said: ‘The court has granted permission to question Zisan on two-day remand. We hope important information will emerge during questioning.’
