Police in Koyra, Khulna, have detained a man, Abdullah Mali, 35, on an allegation of growing cannabis hidden among vegetables on the bank of a fish enclosure. He was detained in a raid carried out on a tip-off at midday on Sunday (4 October). Police recovered and seized four cannabis plants planted on the bank of the enclosure.

Police sources said a team from Koyra police station began an inquiry after receiving secret information that cannabis plants were being planted and tended among vegetables on the bank of a fish enclosure in the upazila, alongside fish farming. Once the information was confirmed, a surprise raid was carried out at the enclosure at about 1pm on Sunday.

During the raid, four large cannabis plants were found, planted so as to escape notice on the bank of the enclosure. Police uprooted and seized the plants, detained Abdullah Mali at the scene on an allegation of involvement and took him to the police station.

Koyra police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Rashedul Alam said four cannabis plants had been recovered and one person detained in the raid, carried out on secret information. The filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act is in process, he said, adding that such raids would continue to curb the spread of drugs.
