Jamalpur 35 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 971 pieces of Indian cosmetics worth about Tk 4.5 lakh in an anti-smuggling operation on the Bakshiganj border in Jamalpur.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol from the Satanipara border outpost (BOP) seized the cosmetics in an operation in the border area at about 9pm on Sunday (4 October).
BGB sources said the operation was carried out in the area of Digholkona village, about 500 yards inside Bangladesh from the Satanipara border pillar in Bakshiganj upazila. A consignment of Indian cosmetics was found abandoned there.
The seized goods include chains, earrings, Skin Shine cream and various other Indian cosmetics. By the BGB’s count there are 971 pieces with an estimated value of Tk 4,45,500.
No owner of the goods or anyone involved in the smuggling was found during the operation. The process of handing the seized cosmetics over to the customs authorities is under way.
Lieutenant Colonel Hasanur Rahman, commanding officer of the Jamalpur Battalion (35 BGB), told the daily Naya Diganta that such operations would continue in border areas to enforce the BGB’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs and smuggling.
