To make marginal farmers in remote hill areas more skilled and self-reliant in agriculture, a two-week farm training programme has begun under the overall management of the Bangladesh Army’s Lakshmichhari zone, in cooperation with the Lakshmichhari upazila agricultural extension office.
The programme was inaugurated on Monday (September 14) morning with the participation of 20 marginal farmers from Dulyatoli union and surrounding remote hill areas. Dulyatoli army camp commander Major Nahiyan Imtiaz inaugurated the programme. Upazila agriculture officer Ratan Chandra Barman and Dulyatoli Union Parishad chairman Trilon Chakma were present.
Over the two-week training, farmers will be given hands-on guidance on modern and sustainable farming methods, crop production and agricultural management suited to the realities of hill farming. At the end of the training, farmers will be given certificates, fertiliser, seeds and various agricultural inputs as encouragement.
Those involved say the initiative stands alongside marginal farmers who make their living farming under various constraints in remote hill areas, and is expected to help boost their agricultural production and self-reliance.
