Brazilian star Raphinha has surpassed Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and joined Argentine legend Lionel Messi in a Barcelona club record.
Barcelona scored a big win over Valencia in Saturday’s La Liga match. Raphinha found the net in that game. In the 50th minute, the Brazilian forward converted a cross from Fermin Lopez to put the ball in the net. With that goal, Raphinha has now scored six goals in Barcelona’s first four matches of the season.
With that goal, Raphinha surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo had scored five goals in the first four matches for three different clubs. Raphinha has now gone past that mark.
The Brazilian star has now matched former Barcelona great Lionel Messi. Messi scored six goals in the first four matches of a season for the club on two occasions — in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.
Raphinha still has a chance to set further records. Two players hold Barcelona’s record for scoring in five consecutive matches: Cesar Rodriguez (eight goals) in the 1950-51 season, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (five goals) in the 2009-10 season.
