Malaysia’s immigration department has detained 472 illegal migrants in a large-scale raid in the Lebuh Pudu area of Kuala Lumpur. Around 2,500 foreigners were checked during the operation. Those detained were nationals of Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, China, Pakistan and Zimbabwe.
Of those detained, 439 were men and 33 women. Officials in the country said they were held on various charges, including lacking valid identification and overstaying their visas. The raid also uncovered a suspected brothel and a den run by a fake doctor.
During the operation, several foreigners tried to flee and scuffled with officers. All those detained have been taken to the Bukit Jalil immigration depot.
