A housewife named Mim Akter, 23, has been killed by the husband she married for love, in Muksudpur, Gopalganj. The accused husband, Tarik Sikder, fled the scene after leaving his wife’s body inside their home.
The incident occurred Sunday (September 13) morning in Bhabraskur village in the upazila. Police recovered the body in the afternoon and sent it to the morgue.
According to local residents and police, Tarik Sikder, son of Sarowar Sikder of Bhabraskur village, developed a romantic relationship about three years ago — while still married to his first wife — with the daughter of Sidam Majhi, a Hindu resident of Shakpailodiya village in Nagarkanda upazila, Faridpur district. He later had her converted to Islam, renamed her Mim Akter, and married her.
However, marital discord had persisted between the couple since their marriage.
On Sunday morning, during an argument arising from this marital discord, Tarik Sikder beat his wife to death.
Muksudpur Circle SP Nafizur Islam said: “The body of a woman named Mim Akter has been recovered. We have not yet been able to confirm whether this was a murder or an accident. However, we have observed injury marks on the body. The matter is being investigated. The actual cause of death will be confirmed once we receive the post-mortem report.”
