A 3-year-old girl named Faria was killed when a speeding trolley struck her in Chandpur’s Matlab Uttar upazila. It is alleged that the driver, attempting to overtake another vehicle at reckless speed, drove the trolley onto the child standing by the roadside. The trolley was seized after the accident, but the driver fled.
The tragic accident occurred Sunday (Sept. 6) morning in front of Suruj Plaza at Chhengarchar Bazar in the upazila.
The deceased, Faria, was the daughter of Kawsar, an expatriate worker from Krishnapur village in the upazila. Locals said Faria was walking right along the edge of the road with her mother on their way to the market that morning. At the time, the child was some distance from the main road. A trolley, moving at reckless speed, then attempted to overtake another vehicle. In doing so, it lost control, veered onto the roadside, and ran over young Faria.
Locals quickly rescued the severely injured child and rushed her to the hospital, where the attending doctor declared her dead. The tragic death of the 3-year-old has cast a shadow of grief over her family, relatives and the local community.
Locals allege that reckless trolley driving and risky overtaking on the road frequently create the risk of accidents, and have demanded effective action against such vehicles.
Matlab Uttar police station said officers were sent to the scene upon receiving news of the accident. An inquest report on the deceased child’s body has been prepared. The trolley involved in the accident has been seized, though the driver fled. Efforts to identify and arrest the driver are underway, alongside the necessary legal action over the incident.
