A Hanif Paribahan bus in Dinajpur’s Birganj left a passenger who had just returned from abroad behind while he stepped away to a washroom. However, police recovered his two passports, plane ticket and luggage from the bus after he called the national emergency service, 999. The incident occurred on Sunday (September 13) night in the Doshmile area of Birganj. On Monday, 999 spokesperson and police inspector Anwar Sattar confirmed the recovery.
According to 999 sources, the passenger, named Mozammel, works in Saudi Arabia. After landing at Dhaka airport, he boarded a Hanif Paribahan bus from Abdullahpur heading to Thakurgaon. When the bus stopped in the Doshmile area to pick up passengers, he told the supervisor he was stepping out and went to the washroom. When he returned, he found the bus had left without him. His two passports, a plane ticket and his luggage, containing items he had brought from abroad, were still on the bus. He then called the 999 number to report the matter.
The 999 service immediately identified the bus to Birganj police station in Dinajpur and asked officers to arrange recovery of the passenger’s belongings. The call was taken by 999 call-taker constable Md Ruhul Amin, and the recovery effort was coordinated by 999 dispatcher SI Abdul Mannan. A Birganj police station patrol team later stopped the moving bus at Shaheed Minar Mor, recovered the two passports, luggage and other belongings, and took them to the police station. When Mozammel arrived at the station, the recovered passport, luggage and other belongings were handed over to him.
