A van driver, Abdul Mojid, 58, was killed when a pickup truck hit his vehicle in Dinajpur’s Phulbari. A passenger on the van and several passengers on an easy-bike were also injured in the incident.

The accident occurred around 7:30pm on Wednesday (September 16) on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway, in front of the Elite Petrol Pump in the Barai Chairmanpara area of the upazila. The deceased, Abdul Mojid, was the son of the late Ismail Hossain, from Bara Gachha Shahara village in the upazila’s Eluari union.

According to police and local sources, Abdul Mojid was returning home around 7:30pm, driving a battery-powered van loaded with tin sheets from Phulbari town. Jahidul Islam, a passenger on the van, was injured; locals rescued him and admitted him to Phulbari upazila health complex, where he remains under treatment.

Phulbari police station’s officer-in-charge (OC), Shahidul Islam, confirmed the incident, saying police went to the scene on receiving the report, recovered the body and had the injured man admitted to Phulbari upazila health complex.
