Wearing a sky-blue saree and a black coat, model and lawyer Piya Jannatul boarded the Pink Bus. But not for a photo shoot — she experienced BRTC’s new service just like any ordinary woman passenger.
BRTC recently launched a special “women’s bus service,” or “Pink Bus,” to make travel in the capital easier, safer and more comfortable for women. Piya Jannatul shared her experience riding the special bus, designed for women, with her fans.
She posted a video on her social media. Describing her experience on the bus, Piya Jannatul said: “It was just a bus ride, but the feeling was a little different. Safety, comfort and confidence — that’s exactly what I felt as a woman riding the Pink Bus.”
Piya also said that when the Pink Bus is on the road, ordinary people look at it with considerable curiosity. She described the experience of riding it as feeling like traveling on a “celebrity bus.” She expressed hope that the initiative would spark positive conversation and encourage more women to move forward.
At one point during the ride, Piya spoke with the bus’s female driver. Asked about her work experience, the driver said she has been learning to drive for six years and has worked at BRTC for two and a half years. The driver said she has her family’s full support.
Piya Jannatul’s video drew considerable attention on social media. Alongside her legal career, Piya has long been a familiar face in fashion and entertainment.
Since its official launch in Tejgaon on August 18, the Pink Bus service has been running regularly on 10 routes in Dhaka. For the convenience of women passengers, it includes e-ticketing, GPS tracking and CC camera facilities.
