A school student, identified as Monnaf Shah Rahman Manik, 13, has died after being bitten by a snake in Nilphamari. The incident occurred Friday (Sept. 4) morning in the Bogila Gari area of Panchapukur union in the sadar upazila.
The deceased student, Monnaf Shah Rahman Manik, was the son of Mashiur Rahman of the same area. He was a seventh-grade student at Nilphamari Cadet Academy.
Family members said Monnaf finished eating Thursday (Sept. 3) night and went to sleep in his room. Friday morning, family members heard sounds coming from his room. When repeated calls went unanswered and the door remained locked, they broke it open. They found Monnaf writhing on the bed, with foam coming from his mouth.
He was rushed to Nilphamari General Hospital in critical condition, where the attending physician referred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. He died on the way to Rangpur.
Locals believe a venomous snake bit Monnaf in his sleep during the night. Because he was sleeping alone, family members did not notice at the time. Although he was rushed to the hospital after being found ill in the morning, he could not ultimately be saved.
Sumon Roy, a teacher at Monnaf’s school, said he was an excellent student. “I never imagined he would die like this,” he said. “His classmates are also devastated by his untimely death.”
Panchapukur Union Parishad Chairman Md. Wahedul Islam Sarkar confirmed the incident, saying the teenager had been sleeping alone. No one in the family realized he had fallen ill until morning, and although he was taken to the hospital, he died on the way to Rangpur.
