Teacher gets life in prison for raping child in Narail

A madrasa teacher, Meraj Ali Meraj, 25, has been sentenced to life in prison in Narail for the rape of a madrasa student. He was also fined 300,000 taka.

Judge Sheikh Chamidul Islam of the Narail Children’s Violence Suppression Tribunal handed down the verdict Monday (Sept. 7) afternoon.

Meraj, who received the life sentence, is the son of Amanullah Haque of Kalia Bakri Rudrapur village in Damurhuda upazila, Chuadanga district.

Advocate Ajibur Rahman Aziz, public prosecutor for the Narail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, confirmed the verdict.

Meraj was present in court when the verdict was announced and appeared downcast.

According to the case documents, in the early hours of July 11, 2025, Meraj, a teacher at the Raghunathpur-Badamtala Jamia Rahmania Taisirul Ulum Madrasa in Narail municipality, raped a 10-year-old student at the madrasa.

The child’s mother filed a case against Meraj at Narail Sadar police station on July 13, 2025. After recording witness testimony, the judge found the charge against the accused proven beyond doubt and sentenced Meraj to life in prison along with a fine of 300,000 taka.
