An inmate identified as Sekander Shahi, 58, has died of heart disease at Dinajpur district jail. Jail superintendent Md Main Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the death at 5pm on Thursday (September 17). Shahi had died earlier that day, at 10am, while under treatment at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
He fell ill inside Dinajpur district jail at 4am on Thursday and was immediately admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. Sekander Shahi was the son of Samsul Huda, from Modhyo Bashudebpur village in the district’s Hakimpur upazila. He was serving a three-month simple-imprisonment sentence in a cheque-fraud case and had entered jail on August 25.
The jail superintendent said inmate Sekander Shahi fell ill inside the jail at 4am on Thursday and was quickly admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where he died under treatment at 10am. His body was handed over to his family in the afternoon after a post-mortem examination at the Dinajpur Medical College morgue.
