Dhaka University has decided to extend the closing time for the gates of its women’s dormitories by one hour. Under the new decision, the gates will now close at 11 p.m., instead of the previous 10 p.m.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Syndicate, Dhaka University’s highest policymaking forum, yesterday, Monday. Vice-Chancellor Professor A B M Obaidul Islam chaired the meeting.
At the meeting, the university administration also suspended three teachers over allegations of opposing the July uprising, and one teacher over allegations of becoming a teacher without meeting the educational qualifications set out in the recruitment notice.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Almojaddedi Alfesani shared the information. Over allegations of opposing the July uprising, the university administration suspended Institute of Education and Research professors M Wahiduzzaman Chan and Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, along with Sociology Department professor Mashiur Rahman. The decision against them was made based on the recommendation of an investigation committee formed by the university administration. A tribunal has also been formed against them.
Music Department associate professor Md Ziaur Rahman (Sayem Rana) has been suspended over allegations of becoming a teacher without meeting the educational qualifications set out in the recruitment notice. An investigation committee has been formed against him to look further into the matter. Ziaur Rahman holds honors and master’s degrees in Islamic studies, and an MPhil and PhD in music. However, the recruitment notice for the teaching post in the Music Department required honors and master’s degrees specifically in music.
