Two more people have died of dengue in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours. In the same period, 988 people were hospitalized after contracting the disease. With this, the death toll for the first five days of this month has risen to 16, and the total number of cases this month has climbed to 5,186.
The information was released Saturday in a dengue-related press statement from the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
The statement said that between 8 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday, dengue patients were hospitalized as follows: 170 in Barishal division, 123 in Chattogram, 176 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 102 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 149 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 163 in Khulna, 50 in Mymensingh, 49 in Rajshahi and 6 in Rangpur division. In the same period, 986 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
The DGHS said the total number of dengue deaths this year now stands at 113, with 41,032 total cases. Among the deaths, 2 occurred in January, 2 in February, 1 in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August. Of all dengue patients to date, 62.1% are male and 37.9% are female.
