Dengue deaths near 100, with 43 in August alone

Four more people died of dengue nationwide in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 1,163 more people were hospitalized after contracting the Aedes mosquito-borne disease.

The information was disclosed Monday in the Directorate General of Health Services’ dengue bulletin. The bulletin covers the 24-hour period from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday.

The health directorate said 97 people have died of dengue so far this year. Of these, 43 died in August alone. Among this year’s dengue deaths, two occurred in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June and 36 in July.

In the past 24 hours, 182 dengue patients were hospitalized in Dhaka North City Corporation area hospitals, 123 in Dhaka South City Corporation area hospitals, and 159 outside Dhaka’s two city corporations. Among other divisions, 132 were hospitalized in Barishal, 120 in Chattogram, 243 in Khulna, 69 in Mymensingh, 87 in Rajshahi, seven in Rangpur and one in Sylhet.

According to the health directorate, a total of 35,846 people have been hospitalized with dengue nationwide since January 1 this year. Of them, 33,205 have recovered and been discharged. In the past 24 hours, 1,017 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
