Dengue continues to spread in Bangladesh. Two more people died of dengue in the past 24 hours, and 955 new patients were admitted to hospital over the same period. Infections this year have now passed 70,000, and 211 people have died of dengue so far this year.
The figures were released on Friday in a dengue press release from the Directorate General of Health Services’ Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
According to the directorate, 114 people died of dengue in the first 25 days of this month, and 34,258 were admitted to hospital over the same period.
Between 8am on Thursday and 8am on Friday, 44 dengue patients were admitted in Barishal division, 246 in Chattogram division, 241 in Dhaka division (excluding Dhaka’s two city corporations), 76 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 133 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 130 in Khulna division, 37 in Mymensingh division, 44 in Rangpur division and four in Sylhet division, the release said.
Over the same period, 953 patients were discharged after recovering.
Of this year’s dengue deaths, two were in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August, the directorate said. So far in September, 114 people have died.
Of those infected this year, 62.4 per cent are male and 37.6 per cent female.
According to the directorate’s latest figures, 70,104 people have been infected with dengue in the country from January to Friday morning, and 211 have died.
