At least 20 people were injured when a Gorai Paribahan passenger bus lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch in Kaliganj, Jhenaidah. Four to five of the injured are in serious condition and receiving hospital treatment; others received first aid at various clinics and health centers.
The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Friday (Sept. 4) on the Jhenaidah-Jashore highway in the upazila’s Keyabagan area.
Police and locals said the Gorai Paribahan passenger bus had set out from Kushtia in the morning bound for Khulna. When it reached the Keyabagan area on the Jhenaidah-Jashore highway, the bus’s front-wheel axle broke. The driver lost control, and the bus veered off the road and overturned in a roadside ditch.
At least 20 passengers on the bus were injured. Fire service personnel reached the scene after being alerted to the accident, rescued the injured and sent them to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
Several of the injured are being admitted to hospital for treatment. Others received first aid at various clinics and local health centers.
Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Mofazzel Hossain said the damaged bus was being recovered. He said many of the injured passengers had returned home after receiving first aid, while four to five who were seriously injured remained under treatment at Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
