Five crore taka from the education budget will be allocated for meritorious scout and rover scout students who achieved a GPA-5 in their SSC and HSC exams, said Education, and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon.
He made the announcement as chief guest at a felicitation ceremony Wednesday morning at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in the capital, held for meritorious scouts who achieved a GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC and HSC exams.
The education minister said work must also be done for students who did not perform well, alongside recognizing meritorious students. He said he would meet with students who failed the Kachua exam this coming Saturday. Highlighting the importance of scouting, Dr Ehsanul Haque Milon said scouting teaches students public service, leadership, love for others and self-sacrifice for the country — qualities from which future leadership is built.
Noting that sports also builds leadership qualities, ethics and discipline, he said sports and scouting can play an important role in keeping young people away from drugs and immorality.
The minister said sports facilities have been arranged from the primary level onward. Uniforms and mid-day meals are being arranged for primary school students. Sports culture, “learning happiness” and technical education are being added to the curriculum starting from grade four. A separate scheme has been adopted for scouts, and initiatives are also being taken for the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC).
Calling on students to uphold ethics and ideals, the education minister said students must respect their parents and teachers alongside their studies. Discipline and ideals must be upheld in nation-building, he said, adding that tomorrow’s Bangladesh will be built by today’s students.
Bangladesh Scouts’ Special Events division holds an annual felicitation ceremony for meritorious scout and rover scout students who achieve a GPA-5 in the SSC and HSC exams. In keeping with that tradition, 580 meritorious scout and rover scout students who achieved a GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC and HSC exams were honored Wednesday at the International Mother Language Institute. Each student received a medal, a letter of congratulations and a set travel allowance at the event, along with 2,000 taka each sent online.
Special guests at the event included Mahdi Amin, adviser to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, and Nasimul Gani, president of Bangladesh Scouts and cabinet secretary. The event was chaired by A B M Abdus Sattar, chief national commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts and principal secretary to the prime minister. Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha, deputy chief national commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts, delivered the welcome address.
