Government announces Dhaka-Chattogram expressway

An expressway will be built from Jatrabari in the capital to Chattogram City Gate to ease congestion on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said.

He announced the plan Friday (Sept. 4) afternoon during a meeting with a delegation from Sitakunda Civil Society at the minister’s residence in Mehedibagh.

During the meeting, leaders of Sitakunda Civil Society proposed building a marine drive road atop Sitakunda’s coastal embankment as an alternative measure to relieve congestion on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. They also called for building an elevated expressway on the Sitakunda section of the highway, specifically from Boro Darogarhat to Foujdarhat.

In response, the finance and planning minister outlined the government’s plan to build an expressway from Jatrabari to Chattogram City Gate.

Sitakunda Civil Society leaders later submitted a memorandum outlining various demands to the minister, including extending Chattogram WASA’s water supply line to Sitakunda, and sought Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury’s cooperation in taking necessary steps on various important issues and demands facing Sitakunda.
