Atrai launches tree-planting drive under BMDA scheme

Under the theme “Dress the nation with trees, Bangladesh first,” a tree-planting programme has been launched in Naogaon’s Atrai as part of the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority’s (BMDA) social afforestation initiative, carried out on a partnership basis.

The programme was inaugurated at 11am on Wednesday (September 16) on the road from Dariagathi Bridge to Parabrajpur in the upazila’s Ahsanganj union. It was inaugurated by Sheikh Md Rezaul Islam Reju, member of parliament for Naogaon-6 (Atrai-Raninagar) and a member of the parliamentary standing committee for the fisheries and livestock ministry.

Also present at the inauguration were upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Md Moniruzzaman, BMDA assistant engineer Md Ali Hossain, upazila BNP vice-president Md Abdul Jalil Chocolate, general secretary Taslim Uddin, vice-president Md Saiful Islam Mridha, and Jubo Dal senior convener Md Khorshed Alam, among others.

According to upazila administration and BMDA sources, 5,000 saplings of various tree species will be planted across the upazila under this programme. Its main goals are to protect environmental balance, counter the adverse effects of climate change, and increase greenery.
