Police in Kaliganj, Jhenaidah, detained a pickup van carrying 40 sacks of TSP fertiliser and two men late at night as they tried to take the fertiliser out of the upazila to sell. On Friday morning a mobile court fined them Tk 25,000, and the seized fertiliser was destroyed after it was found to be adulterated.
The 40 sacks of TSP fertiliser were being taken by pickup van from Moheshwarchanda Bazar in Niamatpur union of Kaliganj upazila to be sold elsewhere. Acting on a tip-off, police carried out a drive and detained the two men along with the van.
On Friday morning a mobile court was conducted under Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rezwana Nahid. It imposed a fine of Tk 25,000 under the Fertiliser Management Act, 2006. Upazila Agriculture Officer Mahbub Alam Rony filed the prosecution during the drive.
After testing showed the seized fertiliser to be adulterated, it was destroyed in the presence of the police station’s officer-in-charge (OC), Zulfiker Ali.
