Police recovered the bodies of two men from a riverbank in Rupsa, Khulna, on Monday, November 2.

The bodies were recovered from Alam Member’s Ghat near Jailkhana Ghat in Singherchar, Aichgati union, at about noon. Residents first saw one body floating in the river mud at about 11 a.m. Another became visible after the water receded at low tide.

One of the men was identified as Mehedi Hasan Sohag, 35, son of Abdullah of Rajapur in Rupsa. Local sources said he was a boatman at Jailkhana Ghat. The other was identified as Rezaul Karim, 30, but further details about him were unavailable.

Police said preliminary information indicated that Sohag was a member of B Company. The cause of their deaths and how the bodies reached the river were not confirmed.

Residents said the bodies had become lodged on a river shoal and were emitting an odor. Both had visible injuries to the head.

Rupsa police station officer-in-charge Masum Khan said police recovered the bodies after residents reported them. He said they were initially believed to have been carried to the area by tidal water.

The recovery follows two recent killings in Khulna, including the killing of Jatiyatabadi Tantidal leader Syed Humayun Kabir in Aranghata on Sunday evening and the killing of a 35-year-old man named Shahidul in Darogapara on Saturday night.
