A mechanical fault has developed on the flight bringing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman back to Dhaka at the end of his visit to Japan, delaying his journey. After the fault appeared, the aircraft carrying him was taken back to the tarmac.
The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight was due to take off at about 6pm local time on Thursday.
About 40 minutes after the scheduled time, however, the pilot announced from the cockpit that the departure was delayed because of a mechanical fault, and apologised.
Tarique Rahman went to Tokyo on 26 October on a four-day state visit at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. During the visit he held high-level bilateral talks with her.
He also met chairmen, chief executives and senior officials of a number of Japanese private companies and financial institutions.
Those meetings focused on strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Bangladesh and Japan and on expanding investment. The two countries also signed several memoranda of understanding covering agriculture, infrastructure development, cybersecurity, information technology and the upgrading of industry, among other areas.
At the end of the visit the prime minister also attended a reception given by Bangladeshi nationals living in Tokyo.
