Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inspected a mobile laboratory set up to test the safety of food (a mobile laboratory van). He inspected it at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning before going into his office.
His deputy press secretary, Hasan Shiplu, gave the information.
The prime minister went inside the mobile laboratory, parked below the prime minister’s office at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat, and watched how food samples are collected and tested. Officials briefed him on the laboratory’s work.
They told him that food sample testing and monitoring have been stepped up in the country’s 64 districts as part of the drive against adulteration, and that food is being tested by mobile laboratories as part of this.
Food samples are currently being tested and monitored by mobile laboratory in eight metropolitan areas, with plans to extend the work to all 64 districts in stages.
The work is carried out separately through mobile courts led by executive magistrates and under the supervision of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority.
Seventy-two mobile laboratory vans are being procured in the current 2026-27 fiscal year under a project to strengthen the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority.
The mobile laboratories also have special features to raise public awareness of food safety: monitors fitted on the outside of the vans show videos on safe food.
Food Minister Afroza Khanam, Chief Whip Nurul Islam, State Minister for Food Abdul Bari, the prime minister’s principal secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Public Administration Secretary Kamruzzaman Chowdhury and senior officials of the food ministry were present during the inspection.
