Saudia’s flights from the Saudi capital Riyadh to Dhaka may resume on Wednesday if conditions remain normal, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said on Tuesday, citing the Saudi authorities.
Flights in and out of Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport were halted for several days after an attack on the airport on 10 October by the Houthis, an Iran-backed armed group. All operations at the airport were shut until 3am Bangladesh time on 14 October. Flights then resumed in stages.
A separate CAAB press release said that, because of restrictions on flights at Saudi airports, 146 direct and transit flights from Dhaka have so far been suspended or cancelled. The 22,241 passengers on those flights have been affected.
In view of the situation, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended its flights on the Riyadh and Dammam routes for passengers’ safety. Under its latest announcement, Biman’s flights from Dhaka to Riyadh and Dammam will remain suspended until 4 November.
Biman had earlier restarted flights on the Dammam route from 21 October as the situation eased somewhat. The next day, 22 October, a flight left Dhaka for Dammam at 8am with 379 passengers. But the suspension on the Riyadh and Dammam routes was later extended.
