Police have filed a general diary (GD) against Rumeen Farhana, the independent member of parliament for Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail, Ashuganj and part of Bijoynagar). Police said they are also drawing up a list of the people who went to the police station with the MP.
The GD was filed at Sarail police station on Thursday night, but it became public only after dark on Friday.
Manzur Kader Bhuiyan, officer in charge (OC) of Sarail police station, confirmed the GD. “A list is also being made of those who came to the station,” he said. “Further action will be taken on the instructions of senior officers.”
Rumeen Farhana’s workers and supporters say a rift has opened between the MP and the Sarail OC in recent days. They say the OC does not respond when the MP or her personal secretary, Zakir Hossain, calls him, and does not even pick up their calls. The MP asked the OC for security and did not get it, they say.
Against this background, Rumeen Farhana went to the OC’s room at Sarail police station with party leaders and workers at around 7:30pm on Thursday. An argument broke out there between the OC and the MP and her companions.
Several videos of the heated exchange spread on Facebook. Of the three videos circulating, one runs 7 minutes 8 seconds, another 57 seconds and the third 2 minutes 23 seconds.
We will inform senior police authorities in writing about the OC. The matter is in process.

Asked about the incident on Thursday, Rumeen Farhana said: “There are all sorts of allegations against him (the OC). I went to the station to discuss them. I even took a list with me. He made no comment. It was a two-page list: on this date this offence, on that date that offence. He could not give any satisfactory answer.”
Meanwhile, Zakir Hossain, the MP’s personal secretary (PS), said a written complaint would be filed against the OC. “We will inform senior police authorities in writing about the OC. The matter is in process,” he said by mobile phone on Friday.
